ongratulations, a word that is said more in the month of June than any other time of the year.
Whether it be to a kindergartner who has graduated for their first time, the high schooler who
is graduating on to their next level of maturity or to the Thaddeus Stevens College graduate who is
now entering into their careers.

It has been my honor to attend the graduations of both the kindergarten graduations of those schools
who participate in our Adopt a Kindergarten program and our College graduation. The similarities
between the two events at times was striking similar and at times quite comical. Pleas allow me
elaborate. Upon entering both the Kindergarten and TSTC parents were obviously very proud,
clapping, cheering, taking pictures. The graduates were excited and fidgety as they were seated and
the programs started. Once the speakers began thought all eyes and ears were focused on the stage.
Our graduation speaker for TSCT this year was alumni, Beth Valentin. Her theme was "You've Got
This" and she captivated the audience. With the Kindergarten classes, the captivation came with
the "Key to Success" speech that came with an actual key that lit up. The themes of both speeches
inspired hope, opportunities to come and the family that is intact to continue to support the hopes
and dreams.
Another striking similarity was the alumni in both audiences. It is a wonderful feeling to see the
second and at time third generation, walking across the stage. Affirmation that we are relevant in our
programs and industry partnerships.
Speaking of programs, here are a few new areas that I am exploring for Continuing Education. We
have received a BB&T grant that will allow us to run 3 week programs in carpentry, electric, HVAC-R,
masonry, plumbing and finishing. A paid six week capstone project will allow the students to focus
in on an area that they wish to become more skill competent. We are working with many community
based organizations to reach possible students and I am currently working on securing instructors
for each program. In the Certificate area, we are working on an Agricultural Technician program
that would be offered as a 9 month program. We are looking to have all of Act 38 requirements met
so employment would be possible immediately. I would like to expand this program to an Associate's
Degree to be offered in the second year of the Water and Technology program. This would allow
students a choice of careers.
We are looking a new program offerings as industry request and will be adding them as the year
progresses. I will highlight the new programs as we bring them on line. I am always excited to hear
from you as to "things" you would like to see TSCT offer and as we expand our Continuing Education,
short -term and Associate offerings, your idea may be included.
Finally, I want to congratulate you the Alumni as one does when a new member of the family arrives.
You have now grown by over 400 new family members with the addition of this graduating class. I
hope you meet some, hire some and encourage them to stay involved with Thaddeus Stevens College.
It is an honor to work at this college!
