Rigging and
Crane Training
Metals Fabrication and Welding
Technology completed its relocation to
the Advanced Manufacturing Center in
August. During the summer months the
faculty, staff and contractors spent
countless hours setting up classrooms,
the computer lab, welding, fabrication
and test equipment. Included at the new
facility is a 5-ton overhead bridge crane,
which presents a unique opportunity for
students of Thaddeus Stevens College of
Technology to receive rigging and crane
training.

Class of 2019

Congratulations to Monica Abreu-Adames
(ARCH) who was recently named BIM technician
at Wohlsen Construction Company. AbreuAdames' primary role will be to elevate clients'
preconstruction experience through the use of
photo-realistic visuals. Her expertise will help
advance Wohlsen's collaboration with clients and
trade partners using visual models.

Faculty News

The National Association of Oil and Energy Service
Professionals (OESP) announced that the winner
of the 2019 Dan Holohan Grant is Matthew Bixler,
HVAC instructor at Stevens. Named for Dan
Holohan, a plumbing and mechanical columnist
and hydronics expert, the grant supports
instructors at HVAC colleges or technical schools
who want to continue their education of purchase
tools or books for classroom instruction.
"I am very thankful to OESP for this grant," Bixler
said. "It will be used to provide my students extra
equipment, such as controls for modern boilers,
testing equipment for modern oil fire furnaces
and boiler trim kits. I have been in the oil industry
since I graduated from a technical college, and I
know the value of understanding all aspects of
the industry. This grant money will provide an
amazing opportunity to train my students with
the correct equipment and tools to be the best
technicians they can possibly be."

The Rigging Institute, located in Aston,
Pennsylvania, stepped forward and
generously offered rigging and crane
training for the faculty at no cost. Also
donated was rigging hardware as well as
all necessary curriculum for the faculty to
add Rigger I Certification and Overhead
Bridge Crane qualifications for students
in the Metals Fabrication and Welding
Technology program. The faculty will be
providing the instruction and The Rigging
Institute will provide third-party
certification for students who
successfully pass the coursework.

Tower City Reunion

On July 13, 2019, twenty-two members of the Class of '65
held their annual reunion at the Brown Jug in Tower City, PA.
