DIY for Renters

In June of 2018 I was approached by Fox Chapel Publishing of
East Petersburg, PA to create a book that covered the most
common repairs that could be completed by home renters. After
researching the topic and deciding if this endeavor would be
something that interested me, I decided to accept the offer.
Beginning in July 2018 with the help of Abigail Roefaro '19,
Graphics Communication and Printing alumna, we began the
large undertaking of shooting photographs of the topics from the
table of context that I created. Creating the step by step text was
a challenge of its own. Creating the images in the correct setting
would prove to be even more challenging.
With the support of administration I was able to use the
Residential Remodeling Technology lab where my sophomore
class of 2018 students renovate kitchen and bath projects
which provided a large portion of the topics that needed to be
photographed.
Abigail's excellent photography and editing skills made the images
in the book very precise and clear. Anyone that has ever tried
to write directions on any topic knows the pictures are worth a
thousand words.
I could have not completed this book without Abigail's expertise
and assistance, the college and the Residential Remodeling lab
and the colleagues I consulted with who encouraged me to do
this.
Lastly, I want to thank all the past Instructors I had as a student
at the college from 1977 to 1979, current and retired teaching
colleagues and everyone I come in contact with daily at this
institution for their friendship and professionalism.
The book is being released on February 18, 2020 and will be
available in Barnes & Nobles, Books a Million, Amazon, Kindle and
anywhere books can be ordered on line. It was quite the challenge
and I do look forward to doing it again in the future.
