Dear Alumni and
Friends of the
College,
I clearly
remember
walking down
the beautiful
main entrance
of Thaddeus
Stevens Trade
School for the
first time. I was
surrounded

by a perfect
Executive Director
canopy of
stately elm trees
that stretched from King Street all the
way to entrance of the parking lot.
I stood there in awe, looking at the
massive brick building known as The
Mellor Administration Building, with
its very impressive giant clock tower
that reached high above the roof
top, framed in the background by an
unforgettable blue sky.
With a million thoughts of gratitude,
I thanked God for lifting me up from
the depths of poverty, and bringing
me to place where people cared about
me. They gave me a bed to sleep in
(the top bunk!), wonderful food, an
education resulting in a marketable
trade, and trusted friends that I've
enjoyed all my life
Stevens Trade School changed my
life. It gave me purpose to live with
a destination to reach my goals
through life's journey. I was taught
to be a dedicated and respected

tradesman with an ethical presence in
all I do. These were the building block
attributes that were absent in the
presence of my own home as a young
boy. It is an immeasurable feeling to
have the skills and the endless desires
to provide for your family and to help
others reach various levels of success.
That's what I hope will be my legacy.
In a repetitive manner over the
years I would catch myself going
about campus from time to time,
dreaming about seeing Thaddeus
Stevens College growing into a very
large technical college. This would
be an awesome accomplishment
that would allow us to increase our
enrollment to a couple of thousand
qualified students. With everyone
working together under President
Griscom's leadership, we can see
the apex of that mountain peak of
unified efforts with the evolving of
three new distinct satellite locations
- Orange Street, Greiner Advanced
Manufacturing Center, and Greenfield
Industrial Center - in addition to our
Main Campus. I am reminded of a
quote I recently read that says that
when you really believe in the cause,
dreams can be postponed, but never
denied. With President Griscom at
the helm, we have brought all of this
to fruition through vision, focus and

perseverance, working with a team in
hand without retreat.
Through the guiding advice of my
school principal I was directed on my
life changing journey to Thaddeus
Stevens Trade School. Giving the spirit
of hope, opportunity and success
to the deserving young men and
women of our great Commonwealth
for endless generations to come
is the legacy we can all be proud
of, especially when we can openly
remove the greatness of "me" to the
everlasting efforts of a collaborate
"we!" These are the achievements
that yield the most effective joy
in our hearts when we're helping
to change the lives of our youth
through providing each one with an
employable technical education.
These are exciting times for Stevens
College with our ever growing
enrollment, new programs and
employment opportunities for our
graduates unlike ever before. I close
by saying invest in the best. Help us
in building community support by

legacy that will never stop helping the
youth of our great Commonwealth and
advance the importance of a technical
