Spring 2022 - 3

DEAR
Pedro Rivera
President
THADDEUS STEVENS
COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
ALUMNI AND FRIENDS
As the dark days of winter melt into spring, Thaddeus Stevens College is buzzing with excitement. The Class of 2022 will
soon walk across the commencement stage. Some of our graduates will enter the workforce, starting careers in their field
of study. Other graduates may continue their education, taking advantage of our articulation agreements with colleges and
universities like Drexel, or Millersville.
W
hile we plan to celebrate this milestone, so are plans
underway to welcome the Class of 2024 to our
campus. Orientation dates have been set, and our newest
members of the Bulldog community are already engaging
with our student success team to plan their time with us.
Fall will bring a new program to the College - Civil
Engineering and Construction Technology. You can read
more about this new in-demand program in this issue of The
Tower.
I have talked about our plans to formalize a vision for our
future at Thaddeus Stevens College. That vision centers
around three key areas: Student Supports - funding the
Stevens Grant, addressing financial barriers to access;
Programs - student centered supports, programs/
technology to mirror industry and workforce evolution; and
buildings/infrastructure - update and upgrade buildings,
outfit classrooms, labs & shops with current and future
technology.
Work is already underway throughout the College toward
achieving that vision, with a focus on upgrading the
campus infrastructure and identifying opportunities to
accommodate our planned enrollment. Upgrades to the
electrical system are in progress. This is needed to support
new technologies and equipment in our labs and offices.
Renovations to the Leonard Building are needed to expand
our Carpentry Technology program, and to address the
demand for industrial carpentry. We recently completed the
acquisition of the Alms House across from the main campus.
The purchase of this parcel is strategically important
to the College's main campus to provide much needed
opportunity for expansion. Potential uses include program
relocations/expansion, Workforce & Economic Development
Center programming, and general education classrooms.
Roof replacement and repair is underway in our residence
halls and other buildings across our locations.
At the same time, we are launching an aggressive plan
to increase enrollment at the College over the next two
academic years. The expanded programs will require an
expansion of our faculty, and additional lab space and
equipment. These program expansions will also drive
upgrading standard equipment in all instructional spaces,
upgrading the Learning Management System, expanded
dining, housing, and transportation; additional general
education offerings, and increased enrollment and support
staff.
These are just some of the activities and changes that are
underway toward achieving our vision for the future, while
continuing the legacy of our benefactor, Thaddeus Stevens.
As alumni of Thaddeus Stevens College, you have shared
experiences, values, aspirations, and a common path. And I
hope when you have the opportunity, you will be generous
with your sharing those experiences with future generations
of Bulldogs.
I look forward to continuing to engage with our alumni
and friends of the College as we advance our passionate
commitment to the mission of Thaddeus Stevens College,
and hope to see you on campus or at College events in the
near future. Wishing you a safe and happy spring!
I hope when you have the opportunity, you will be generous with
your sharing those experiences with future generations of Bulldogs.
