Spring 2022 - 7
" The College is currently evolving to maintain currency and
alignment with the evolving workforce landscape, " said Dr.
Jackson. " We are now embracing the development of new
programs, expanding current programs, and modifying
instructional delivery methods to meet the needs of students
and the workforce demands of business and industry. While
the College will continue to maintain its foundation and
mission, I believe the methods used to accomplish the mission
will be more diverse than ever before. "
Through numerous partnerships with business and industry,
Thaddeus Stevens College has been able to keep its finger
on the pulse of the training needs of industries throughout
the commonwealth, explained Dr. Jackson. To that end, the
College was most recently approached by industry partners
demonstrating the need for skilled employees in the civil
engineering construction field.
" In a collaborative effort with industry, the College was
able to identify the training needs of civil engineering
construction technicians and build a program designed to
meet the training needs. "
The Civil Engineering Construction program will be a
great fit for students who are interested in understanding
and working in a construction industry that builds the
infrastructure that allows our communities to thrive, said Dr.
Jackson. Students will use and develop competencies in the
construction of roadways, municipal and state infrastructure
projects, underground utilities, horizontal site development,
and construction of water and wastewater infrastructures.
" Enrolling in the Civil Engineering Construction Technology
program at Thaddeus Stevens College will provide students
with foundational competencies that will equip them with a
higher level of preparedness and expedite upward mobility
within the industry, " he said.
Dr. Jackson brings a unique perspective to this role, including
extensive executive leadership experience in community
college and technical higher education, most recently with
Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville, NC.
He also brings more than 12 years' experience as an instructor
in higher education, and served in the United States Army &
North Carolina National Guard, Fort Bragg, as a Petroleum
Supply/Movement Specialist.
