A BIRTHDAY
TO REMEMBER.
Thad's Birthday Week
Honoring the grave of Thaddeus Stevens.
The 232nd birthday of Thaddeus
Stevens was Thursday, April
4th. We kicked off the season
of so many celebrations (Final
projects! Award ceremonies!
Commencement!) with a week of
birthday festivities.
On Tuesday, our campus community was treated
to free Philly pretzels throughout our locations,
and students shared their thoughts on how
Thaddeus Stevens College is making a difference
in their lives. On Wednesday, the Student
Government Association hosted a birthday party
for Thad in the dining hall with cake, games,
and prizes. Wednesday also included the annual
bowling bash with students, staff, and alumni at
Dutch Lanes, featuring cash prizes and plenty
of competition. Thursday's edible book festival
- food items inspired by favorite books! -
took place in the library, and was followed later
in the day by a book chat with Mark Kelley,
author of An Uncommon Woman: The Life of
Lydia Hamilton Smith. The College supported
a bonfire on Thursday night, and the College
hosted a commemoration ceremony at the
grave site of Thaddeus Stevens in ShreinerConcord
Cemetery on Friday, which included
awarding a $500 prize for the best student
essay submitted about Thaddeus Stevens.
