The program also uses lab space
located at Thaddeus Stevens
College at Greenfield where they
practice various skills necessary
in the industry, such as pouring
concrete and assembling pipe.
Under Mitch's instruction, students
also put their education into practice
by engaging in beautification
projects on campus and in the
surrounding community. Beyond
tangible skills, he aims to equip
his students with a strong work
ethic and soft skills to benefit the
workforce in whatever positions
they enter after graduating.
" A technical program is only as
good as the instructor, " Tim said.
" I can't say enough of what Mitch
has brought to help develop and
get this program off the ground.
It's unbelievable what he has done. "
The program received a
tremendous response from
students, with enrollment reaching
maximum capacity in the first and
second years. Allan Myers hired
four interns from the program
last year, eventually extending
three job offers at the end of
the internship, with two of the
students signing on to join the
team. After students graduate
from the Civil Engineering
Construction Technology program,
they can earn a family-thriving
wage in an industry with a demand
not fading any time soon.
While Allan Myers has been pivotal
in developing this degree at the
College, other partners have also
helped to pave the way to strong
enrollment and results. These include:
Abel Construction, B. R. Kreider &
Son, Berg Construction, Brubacher
Excavating, CH+N Site Construction,
D. H. Funk & Sons, ELA Group,
LB Water, Scenic Ridge Co.,
Schlouch, Inc., SITECH(R) Metro
Northeast, and SLC Excavating.
The College also hired Steven
Simes as its second-year instructor,
bringing his expertise in the
industry to help round out the
full scope of the curriculum.
" The value the students get from
here is second to none, " Mitch said.
" Thaddeus Stevens College is the
greatest gem in post-secondary
education there is. "
