Chances are you've heard us use the term
America's Healthiest Hometown. It's something
we have worked towards for the past decade.
The Villages Health initiative was a big step
forward in establishing Care Centers located
throughout the community. Those primary care
centers are now serving over 50,000 patients
and are ranked in the top 1% nationally in
quality outcomes.
Recently, the Center for Advanced
Healthcare at Brownwood opened bringing
a whole new level of world class care to our
residents.
But, as our dad used to say..."you ain't seen
nothing yet!"
Last year The Villages announced a
collaboration with UF Health which included the
University of Florida hospitals, medical school
and other health related professional schools.
The arrival of UF Health in our community
has created a whole new array of opportunities
as we contemplate a state of the art Medical
Village. Moving south gives us the chance to
do something really special. We've set 400 acres
aside because, together with UF Health, we're
thinking big about how to bring world class
health care to The Villages!

It begins with a new state-of-the-art UF
Health Hospital. Potentially, it is a teaching

hospital as well as regional trauma center. It will
bring the latest and greatest technologies and
practices to our community.
The new UF Hospital is only the beginning
for this Medical Village.
Through our developing collaboration with
UF Health and the University of Florida, we see
that future of medicine evolving in The Villages.
UF Health brings the three main components
of academic medicine, education, research &
advanced clinical care. We dream that all three
will be here.
While caring for the health needs of the
community, we can also be training and
educating the next generation of doctors, nurses,
pharmacists and therapists. And, through
research in labs and through the opportunities
our unique community presents, we can be
at the forefront of medical advances to better
understand how we can all live longer and
healthier lives.
We're the largest older adult community in
the world. Where better than the Villages to be
at the forefront of solving problems that extend
the quality of life? We can help ask and answer
the tough questions about health for elder
adults. The fact that this can all take place here is
exciting.
As we begin to imagine and plan, there are
other potential components of the Medical
Village. Support areas like medical equipment,
pharmaceuticals, and other health related
companies will want to be a part of the amazing
things happening here.
There will also be places for housing the
doctors, nurses, medical students and other
health care providers living in the area. An
"urban core" similar to a Town Center, will be
created near the Hospital offering shopping,
dining and commercial services to serve that
medical community and others.
We are eager to share more as we continue
to develop this unique vision. Together, with
our community and with UF Health, we've only
begun to dream!
We believe that the "best is yet to come"
and that this opportunity will be lifechanging for the residents of The Villages
and the surrounding community.
