Winners will be announced on Oct. 4 at The Royal Hawaiian hotel, followed by open house weekends on Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15-16. This premier statewide showcase of new homes in Hawaii will educate consumers on the latest trends, technology and design innovations in residential construction. The final deadline for all entries is July 18, 2011. Developers and contractors may enter single-family and multifamily homes, townhomes, high rises, builder spec homes, units in vacation ownership projects and conversions. The Parade of Homes also will include the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Green Building Standards for residential construction. The 2011 HONBLUE Pacific Building Trade Expo, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Hawaii Convention Center, has issued an invitation for sponsors, seminar speakers and exhibitors wishing to participate in this year’s event. Now in its 12th year, this all-day trade show is produced by the Honolulu chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and features a showcase of products and services from nearly 300 vendors as well as two dozen seminars. Engineering Firm Wins Top SBA Award
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Hawaii District Office, presented its 24th annual SBA Small Business Awards at an April 29 luncheon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. The highest honor, state Small Business Person(s) of the Year, went to Brian Bowers and Dexter Kubota, president and vice president, respectively, of engineering firm Bowers + Kubota Consulting, Inc. Robert Fujimoto, president and CEO of HPM Building Supply, Ltd., earned the Entrepreneurial Success Award for the State of Hawaii and Region IX (serving Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii and Nevada). And Blake Kolona, president of Kolona Painting & General Construction, Inc. earned the Small Business Person of the Year under the City and County of Honolulu. Bowers and Kubota will represent Hawaii in the SBA’s National Small Business Person of the Year competition in Washington, D.C.
