Kahi Mohala Renovation Blessed A blessing ceremony was held Sept. 14 to celebrate the completion of a renovation project at Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health. The first phase of a multiyear renovation plan, the project involved improvements to the facility’s Lehua A unit, which is occupied by adult patients with serious behavioral health challenges. The Lehua A unit has been in continuous use for 26 years and required multiple upgrades. The project was made possible in part by $547,816 in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies distributed through the City & County of Honolulu. “I commend Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health for the vital work they do to help some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” says Mayor Peter Carlisle. “This project highlights the importance of the CDBG program on Oahu.” The city also will provide $550,000 in CDBG funds for Phase II of Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health’s renovations, scheduled to be completed in early 2012. “We’re grateful to reach the end of Phase I and look forward to completing Phase II,” says Leonard Licina, CEO of Kahi Mohala Behavioral Health. “When we’re done, rooms will be safer and offer our patients more privacy, and the facility will help us provide even better service.” NewsBeat When you’re in the top 2%, there’s a lot of room underneath.
