The 13th Annual Kala'iomalulani race, hosted by Keahiakahoe Canoe Club in Kaneohe Bay, attracted clubs from around the island. The long course was from Kailua Beach Park to Heeia Pier and the short course was inside Kaneohe Bay. The Kala'iomalulani was created as a memorial for Stan Dickson's mom and niece. "The long course was for my niece Evon Hookele and the short for my mom Verna Dickson." The race began about 14 years ago to bring other canoe clubs to Kaneohe Bay so they could discover what the Windward-side has to offer.
