race Around the Hat Te Aito or Super Aito, Tahiti bound? each year the Race Around the Hat gets bigger. V1's (rudderless one-person canoe) popularity is growing. event organizers, the Hawai‘i Va‘a Association (HVA), have decided to move the date of next year's race to synchronize with the V1 Pacific racing calendar. the new date is set for Sunday, July 6th, 2014, avoiding the macfarlane regatta, conflicts with the Long Distance season and the High School athletic calendar. the alignment with the Pacific V1 calendar allows HVA to qualify paddlers to race in the Aito races of tahiti, generally considered the long distance world championships of V1 paddling. for 2014, the HVA will send a minimum of three paddlers from Hawaii to compete in either the te Aito or Super Aito.
