ACR Convergence 2023 Offers a Full Scientific
Program with Myriad Opportunities for Engagement

unny San Diego is an inviting locale
for the rheumatology community to
connect and learn about groundbreaking
developments in rheumatology
research and care when ACR
Convergence convenes this fall.
" ACR Convergence 2023 is back in San
Diego, California, Nov. 10-15, at the San
Diego Convention Center and better than
ever, " said ACR President Douglas White,
MD, PhD. " The rheumatology community
can recharge and learn about the latest advancements
and scientific breakthroughs
in rheumatology from world-class experts. "
Dr. White shared with ACR Convergence
Today his excitement for this year's annual
meeting, which includes additional time for
scientific sessions and more opportunities to
earn continuing medical education (CME) credit.
" The meeting length has been extended
by a day, and the three plenary sessions are
offering CME, " Dr. White said.
What new programming has been added
to the ACR Convergence experience?
Dr. White: " There is a new session type
called Meet the Panel, related to different

The ACR Convergence program offers a multitude of reasons to

in talking to experts and hearing about difficult
cases, so I think this will be well received.
We also have several pilot initiatives
this year, including Team Science Meeting
Rooms for research groups to gather and
collaborate. And we're excited about new
Newtworking Lounges - this year centered
on interprofessional team members,
pediatric rheumatology, business aspects
of rheumatology, education and workforce,
and basic science - to provide a dedicated
and comfortable space for folks to meet
old friends, make new connections, have a
coffee, and see what's new. "
What popular mainstays can attendees
look forward to?
Dr. White: " The Poster Hall is back in
person, complete with tours. Plus, the
Knowledge Bowl, Thieves Market, and Great
Debate (adult and pediatric) are always
highlights because they are fun, interactive,
and interesting. The program is full of great
speakers as well. "

IN-PERSON POSTER
HALL RETURNS
In response to attendee feedback, the
ACR Convergence Poster Hall will return
to an in-person format in 2023.
" For a lot of people, it felt like a
missing piece to the overall program
when the Poster Hall was virtual. This
is because the Poster Hall becomes
the main way students and trainees
can start learning how to talk about
their research, and it's an opportunity
to make connections with other
scientists, " said Betsy Barnes, PhD.
" Scientists and clinicians use it as a
way to enhance their knowledge, so
it's critical on both sides. "
Located in Hall C of the San Diego
Convention Center, the Poster Hall
will feature research organized by
topic from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. PT daily on
Sunday, Nov. 12, through Tuesday, Nov.
14, and presenters will be available
to discuss their findings with meeting
attendees from 9-11 a.m. daily.
The Poster Hall serves a dual
purpose of showcasing the work
being done in the field and providing
a venue for networking.

W
hen the rheumatology community
converges in San Diego this November,
there will be a lot to look forward to:
the latest in science, research, and education
in the field, and making connections
with colleagues - all in a locale
known for idyllic weather and a welcoming vibe.
" We say that the West Coast is the best coast,
and being a West Coast native, I look forward to
ACR Convergence 2023 being in San Diego, " said
ARP President Kori Dewing, DNP, ARNP, ANP-C,
RN-C. " San Diego is known for sunshine, beautiful
beaches, palm trees, and baseball, and I hope that
everyone gets to celebrate a bit of all of that when
they attend ACR Convergence this year. "

One of the unique aspects of the meeting is that it is for the whole
rheumatology team, including researchers, scientists, providers who
see patients in the clinic, rehabilitation specialists, social workers,
occupational and physical therapists, nurses, pharmacists, and
The Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC) has
developed a comprehensive program with 32 ARPfocused
sessions, which includes the Daltroy Lecture
on Sunday, Nov. 12; the ARP Distinguished Lecture on
Monday, Nov. 13; and ARP Keynote on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
" We all attend ACR Convergence to stay up to date on
the latest in research and education, and the programming
this year promises to be outstanding with new
content and timely topics such as oral healthcare, grief
in rheumatology patients, and burnout, " Dr. Dewing said.
" There are several diversity, equity, and inclusion-specific
sessions interwoven throughout the conference. Favorites like the
Stats Bootcamp and the Immunology Bootcamp are also back. This
meeting really has something for everyone. "
The Radiology Bootcamp will be on Saturday, Nov. 11. The three-part

" Because there are a limited number
of talks led by trainees, the Poster
Hall is the only way that they get a
chance to present the work they've
done the past year or the past two or
three years, " said Dr. Barnes, Head
of the Laboratory of Autoimmune
and Cancer Research at the Feinstein
Institutes for Medical Research and
Professor at Hoffstra University/
Northwell Heath. " It's a point of pride.
They get to present and even defend
their work. "
Different posters are featured each of
the three days the Poster Hall is open.
Attendees can tour the Poster Hall
on their own or sign up to participate
in a themed poster tour led by senior
faculty. Poster tours are offered 9-11
a.m. each day the hall is open.
Posters will be featured on the ACR
Convergence meeting website and
mobile app before, during, and for
a full year after the meeting ends.
Individual poster presentations will
not be recorded. *
