Liana Fraenkel, MD, MPH

Aileen Ledingham, PT, MS, PhD
ARP PRESIDENT
Dr. Fraenkel is director of medical education and director
of population health research at Berkshire Health Systems,
and adjunct professor of medicine at Yale University
School of Medicine. Prior to moving to the Berkshires,
she spent 20 years at Yale University, where her research
program focused on improving our understanding of both
physician and patient decisionmaking,
and on developing
methods to improve
risk communication
and the quality of
decision-making
for patients
facing difficult
decisions.
Dr. Fraenkel
has conducted
numerous studies
examining patient
attitudes toward drug
toxicity, physician and
patient treatment preferences,
and contextual influences on risk perception. She has
developed several novel methods of communicating risk
information and engaging patients in shared decisionmaking.
Dr.
Fraenkel is a recipient of the ACR Henry Kunkel Early
Career Investigator Award and was funded by a K24
mentoring award, which enabled her to mentor trainees
across a broad range of patient-oriented research projects.
She is now focused on building a population health research
program to address some of the most pressing health
problems in western Massachusetts.
Dr. Fraenkel is a grateful recipient of funding from
the Rheumatology Research Foundation and, prior to
becoming Foundation President, enjoyed volunteering as
a scientific peer reviewer, as a member of the Foundation
Board of Directors, and as a member of the Scientific
Advisory Council.

Dr. Ledingham is a physical
therapist clinical scientist at
Mount Auburn Hospital
in Cambridge, MA. Her
research interest is
in the field of knee
osteoarthritis, specifically
on how to help patients
use exercise and physical
activity to manage their
pathology and improve their
quality of life. She is an avid
skier, jogs to help age gracefully, and
enjoys watching women's college lacrosse
and the New York Yankees. *
