Appendix APPENDIX METHODS: CHAPTER 1 To estimate the public health burden of digestive diseases and cancers across UEG member countries we extracted and compiled data from publicly available data sources, alongside data obtained from published literature. Study population This report focused on 44 UEG member countries. The countries have an estimated combined population of more than one billion,1 and their economies range from high to lower-middle income, as classified by the World Bank. Kosovo is also a UEG member country however comparable data for Kosovo were not available from the data sources used for the report. The regional groupings developed for the report, shown in Figure 153, were based on United Nations subregions159 with some alterations made for comparative purposes. Northern Europe was subdivided with the UK added to the Western Europe region and the Baltic States added to the Central and Eastern Europe region. Additionally Southern Europe was divided into Southern and Southeastern Europe.
