Matthias Löhr has also shared with us his reflections and goals for
the next few years as he begins his first term as UEG President:
" I will continue the wonderful outreach campaign of further
internationalisation that Helena has started, and I will also
keep up the good work and continue the relationships she has
fostered with our member societies and committees and make
some more effort to integrate the national societies into UEG.
In addition, I will focus on the big new challenge for our myUEG
Community, namely the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in GI in
general, endoscopy, writing clinical guidelines, and everywhere
else. We need to address this and find a way to incorporate AI
into how we deal with gastroenterology as a field.
I think UEG is in a very good place. However, we need to look
beyond UEG Week and find other sources of engagement. For
example, we have begun taking UEG on board with European
Grants. Here, UEG can do what it does best: disseminate information.
UEG is very good at marketing and advertising, I mean
look at UEG Week around you, it is perfect from a public affairs
and dissemination point of view. This is this strength of UEG I
would like to put to work for European Grants. This in turn would
broaden our scope and simultaneously generate income for our
federation.
The myUEG Community is the strength of our organisation. It
attracts young talent which we know to be the source of never-ending
inspiration for everyone. They are in our committees
and have this energy and desire to positively contribute to all we
do, and I truly hope to see this grow even more. "
