Roundtable
EU policy work
Our policy work in 2023 was centred around the newly established
Subcommittee on Public Health (SANT) in the European
Parliament. We contributed to a Parliamentary Report calling for
an integrated EU strategy on non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
with data from the White Book 2.
We reached a significant milestone as seven out of the nine
amendments we suggested for the draft text were incorporated
into the final version. Notably, the report explicitly mentions
several gastrointestinal diseases.
Digestive Health Roundtable
On October 15, members of the Public Affairs Group and patient
advocates gathered at UEG Week 2023 for the first Digestive
Health Roundtable. This event marks the first in a series of
multidisciplinary meetings with the goal of addressing challenges,
identifying opportunities, and reaching a consensus on joint
actions to enhance digestive health across Europe.
We were pleased to have four European and three Danish Patient
Associations involved in this event: EFCCA, AOECS, ELPA, DiCE,
Danish Celiac Association, Danish Liver Association, and Danish
Colitis-Crohn Association.

WHO Europe at UEG Week
It was a pleasure to welcome WHO Regional Director for Europe,
Hans Kluge, at the opening plenary session of UEG Week for a
panel discussion on " Hospitals in crisis " .
In an insightful UEG Week+ interview with Hans Kluge, we
had the opportunity to further explore the current challenges
and perspectives for public health in Europe and the implications
for digestive health.
