the distinguished Journal Neurogastroenterology and Motility.
His connection with UEG began in 2009 when he joined the
Scientific Committee. He was the first Editor-in-Chief of the UEG
Journal, achieving an impact factor over 3.5 in 5 years. He received
the UEG Research Prize in 2015 and has also contributed
to numerous UEG courses.

Research Fellowship
Angelo Armandi was awarded the Research Fellowship 2023 and
will work on a 12-month project titled " Immune activation and
the liver-spleen axis in Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis " at the Saarland
University, Germany, under the guidance of Jörn M. Schattenberg.
As a consultant hepatologist and PhD student at the
University of Turin, Italy, Angelo Armandi has been specialising
in liver fibrosis and non-invasive biomarkers for Non-Alcoholic
Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) since 2018. He will leverage this expertise
to explore immune patterns in NASH and fibrosis, as well

as the liver-spleen axis in the research group led by Prof. Jörn M.
Schattenberg, supported by the UEG Research Fellowship.
UEG Journal Best Paper Award
Robert Hüneburg received the Journal Best Paper Award 2023 as
the first author of the winning article Real-time use of artificial
intelligence (CADEYE) in colorectal cancer surveillance of
patients with Lynch syndrome-A randomized controlled pilot
trial (CADLY). Robert is a gastroenterologist in the Department
of Internal Medicine I, National Centre for Hereditary Tumor Syndromes,
University Hospital Bonn, Germany. This well-designed
German prospective study used a randomised and prospective
approach.
The topic of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, particularly in
relation to endoscopy, is becoming increasingly popular, making
this study highly relevant and timely. This is also reflected in the
high Altmetrics score, indicating its widespread attention and
engagement. Another appealing aspect is the immediate applicability
of the study's results in clinical practice.
