Solis is a 45-unit certified Passive House built in a dense urban environment. Using
conventional materials in innovative ways, Solis was built for a mere 5 percent
construction cost premium while achieving 50 percent energy savings as well as airquality
and sound improvements, making it a premier example of the possibilities
of healthy, sustainable urban housing.
St. Pete Pier

SITE SIZE: 26 acres (10.5 ha)
The St. Pete Pier, located along the St. Petersburg downtown waterfront and including
five acres (2 ha) over open water, is the result of a 15-year planning process
marked by extensive public input. The pier consists of a beach, playground, splash
pad, five dining concepts, an environmental education center, a market, event
spaces, a waterfront promenade, public art, and acres of green space. St. Pete Pier
hosts over 80 events per year as well as many outdoor classes, and attracts more
than 2.5 million visitors annually.
Taylor Street Apartments and Little Italy Branch Library

SITE SIZE: 0.89 acres (0.36 ha)
Built on a former brownfield, this development is one of the first to co-locate Chicago
Housing Authority and Chicago Public Library buildings. It combines a one-story
public library and a multistory residential complex with 37 Housing Authority, 29
affordable, and seven market-rate units, with additional community spaces at street
level. The buildings are set back and staggered across the site, creating new public
space while preserving Taylor Street Farm. The library includes distinctive community
spaces for children, teens, and adults.
