University Partners Program
ULI University Partners was launched in spring 2022 to offer
colleges and universities the opportunity to holistically engage
with ULI, strengthen their industry relationships, shape and
leverage intelligence from ULI research, grow their thought
leadership, and connect their students to ULI members and
career opportunities. ULI works with a wide range of schools-
from those that offer large global programs to those with a
hyperlocal student body and focus. ULI recognizes each school's
unique strengths and works with its partners to support their
goals. Partners receive recognition on ULI's website, in Urban
Land both in print and online, and on its social media channels.
ULI's work is relevant to a broad array of disciplines, so each
school engages with ULI's content and members in ways that best
serve its specific programs. The following are some ways in which
our University Partners are engaging with ULI.
Clemson University does so comprehensively, as an annual
sponsor for ULI South Carolina, while encouraging students to
participate in the ULI Hines Student Competition, signing up a
roster of students as ULI student members, and bringing a cohort
of students to ULI Fall or Spring Meeting. This year, Clemson partnered
with local member Hughes Investments to sponsor a happy
hour for students at the Fall Meeting.
The SMU Cox School of Business's Folsom Institute for Real
Estate similarly signs up a roster of students as members, brings
a cohort to the ULI Fall Meeting, and participates in local ULI
Dallas-Fort Worth programs.
John Hopkins University Carey School of Business registers a
cohort of faculty and students for ULI membership and is offering
a substantial scholarship for three or four ULI members per year
who are accepted into JHU's part-time Master of Science in Real
Estate and Infrastructure program.
Colgate University since 2020 has offered ULI Learning's Foundations
of Real Estate (FoRE) Certificate to undergraduate students
throughs its Career Services. Students join a Colgate specific
cohort where they can complete the on-demand course work
alongside their peers.
Boston College is an example of how faculty integrate UrbanPlan
into their course work. Neil McCullagh, Executive Director of
Boston College's Joseph E. Corcoran Center for Real Estate and
Urban Action, uses the UrbanPlan curriculum in the course Real
Estate and Urban Action: Transforming Community and Increasing
Access to Opportunity. This multi-disciplinary class is focused on
helping first-year students develop skills and practice responding
to complex societal problems.
Dallas College also offers FoRE, enlisting ULI to provide an
instructor who augments the on-demand coursework with live sessions
where students can review the material and ask questions.
Students who complete the certificate receive Dallas College's
Continuing Education Skills Award (CESA) in commercial real
estate. ULI and Dallas College developed course rubrics, based on
state Workforce Education Course Material (WECM) standards, to
match the ULI course materials so that FoRE would be approved
and listed as a WECM course for use at public institutions
throughout Texas.
At Elon University, Margarita Kaprielyan, assistant professor of
finance and ULI Learning instructor, leads a cohort of students in
Elon's Real Estate Club in taking FoRE and brings in guest speakers
to reinforce the lessons in the course materials.
