ULI LEARNING COURSES AND CERTIFICATES

In 2022, Dallas College offered ULI's Foundations of Real Estate
(FoRE) certificate. The school enlisted ULI to provide an instructor
who augmented the on-demand coursework with live sessions wherein
students could review the material and ask questions. Students who
completed the certificate received Dallas College's Continuing Education
Skills Award (CESA) in commercial real estate. One student had this to
say about the experience:
" My name is Keoshia Smallwood and I completed ULI's Foundations of
Commercial Real Estate (FoRE) certificate through Dallas College last year
.... [The] program really helped spearhead my real estate career. Since
then, I've earned my real estate license, enrolled in the University of Texas
at Arlington real estate graduate certificate program, and I'm currently
completing an 11-week Real Estate Development internship with Rent-ACenter.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who coordinated and
worked on the Dallas College commercial real estate program! "

The excitement was palpable, even through a computer screen, when
30 students from five schools across the United States came together
in late June to take part in the UrbanPlan National Student Competition.
Over the course of eight hours, students worked in teams to come up
with development proposals that were later presented to a mock city
council. They engaged ULI volunteer members about the decisions they
made for their plan and spent time concretely defending their choices.
The competition features a twist on the traditional UrbanPlan Request for
Proposals, and students are not aware of the twist until they arrive on the
day of the competition.

At the 2023 ULI Spring Meeting in Toronto, the University Connections
Emerging Trends in Real Estate session shed light on a younger
generation's perceptions of suburbs and the shifting preferences of
students regarding where to live and work post-graduation.
Led by Anita Kramer, senior vice president, ULI Center for Real Estate
Economics and Capital Markets (REECap), the session started with a
presentation of market prospect trends over the last few years. Most
of the students believed that the economic outlook for the real estate
industry over the next six months would not be " good " or " poor " but,
instead, a more neutral " fair. "
ULI ETKIN SCHOLARS

The ULI Etkin Scholars Program, made possible by the philanthropic
support of Bruce Etkin, continues to make strides in engaging and
supporting a diverse group of talented students to advance their careers
through connections to ULI district councils and the real estate industry.
Now in its second year, the program has shown remarkable growth,
expanding to eight District councils and welcoming 136 scholars from
35 universities, including four historically Black colleges and universities
(HBCUs), thus exemplifying a dedication to fostering diversity. The
program has made a significant impact by accumulating more than 700
hours of volunteer time and 1,000 hours of scholarly engagement.
Being a part of the ULI Etkin Scholars program has had a profound
impact on my personal and professional growth. It has provided me
with invaluable opportunities to connect with diverse individuals, discover
various roles within the real estate ecosystem, and explore unique
buildings and construction sites in the Denver area. The program has
introduced me to accomplished industry professionals, allowing me to
learn from their expertise and gain insights into different career paths.
One of the most memorable experiences of my time with ULI was
receiving funding to attend the Spring Meeting in Toronto. This
opportunity opened doors for me to form friendships with people from
all corners of the globe. It was eye-opening to witness how different
cities have found unique ways to tackle complex urban challenges such
as office vacancies, escalating housing costs, and the rejuvenation of
neglected areas. This exposure broadened my understanding and inspired
me to approach urban issues from fresh angles.
I am incredibly grateful for being selected as a participant in these
transformative experiences. The knowledge and connections I have gained
through the ULI Etkin Scholars program will undoubtedly shape my future
endeavors in the field of real estate. I eagerly anticipate maintaining my
involvement with ULI and continuing to contribute to its mission in the
years ahead.
