We expect to see more hybrid
virtual and face-to-face events
in the months ahead, and we are
now planning our Fall Meeting
in Chicago in October, which
we expect will be largely an
in-person event, supplemented
with digital elements.
Owen and me over the past six months to
ensure a smooth transition. You can read an
interview with Peter in this issue of Urban
Land beginning on page 34.
This summer also sees a change of chair
at the ULI Foundation. Doug Abbey concludes
his three years as ULI Foundation chairman,
during which time he has been integral to our
fundraising efforts. The recent success of the
ULI Foundation owes much to his energy and
focus, and we cannot thank him enough for
the work he did in shaping our case for support
and launching a major new campaign.
Doug will be succeeded by Faron Hill, president
of Peregrine Oak and a longstanding ULI
member and donor to the ULI Foundation.
Finally, in our Asia Pacific region, Nicholas
Brooke, who has ably chaired the ULI Asia
Pacific region for the past three years, will
hand over the reins to Khoo Teng Chye, professor
at the National University of Singapore,
who has most recently held the position of
vice chairman of ULI Asia Pacific. Nick has
been instrumental in our growth in the region
for many years, and his leadership as chair
has set ULI Asia Pacific up for success for
many years to come.
As we enter the second half of the calendar
year, there is cause for optimism. The
success of vaccination programs around the
world means that we are cautiously confident
of the return to in-person meetings later
this year, including the Fall Meeting. More
broadly, the new articulation of our mission-
combined with clearly defined priorities and
the continuation of strong member leadership-will
enable us to provide more member
benefits and deliver even more effectively on
our mission. UL
