the real estate sector and accelerate the
industry's progress to net zero.
THIS IS THE TIME: Real estate has a responsibility and an opportunity to
address the climate crisis and reach net zero.
Net zero in the built environment describes a building portfolio that is highly energy efficient and fully
powered by on- and off-site renewables and offsets.

Eight teams have been selected to participate in the first
cohort of ULI's Net Zero Imperative, intended to accelerate
decarbonization in the built environment by bringing
together public and private stakeholders to address local
challenges in advancing real estate's progress on net zero,
and scale those solutions to benefit the global industry.
This multiyear initiative was jump-started by Owen Thomas
and is supported by Lynn Thurber, Joe Azrack, Franz
Colloredo-Mansfeld, and Dan Cashdan.

Developing a path to net zero carbon has become a
priority for investors, tenants, cities, and the real estate
industry. ULI has developed a wide range of resources
to help members and the broader real estate and land
use community better understand the business case
for a path to net zero, as well as tools to help them
operationalize it in their projects and portfolios.

To date, 25 real estate members of ULI Greenprint have
aligned with the Net Zero Carbon Operations by 2050 goal.
This pragmatic leadership represents over $917 billion in
assets under management, over 1.7 billion square feet (161
million sq m) of building space, and over 6,700 properties
across 20 countries.
