The barrier island just off the mainland of Fort Pierce and
Port St. Lucie is known as Hutchinson Island. The Fort Pierce
Inlet divides the island between North Hutchinson and
South Hutchinson and both offer visitors a quiet and relaxing
beach vacation. Here, visitors enjoy 21 miles of pristine
coastline that has been well-preserved - as nearly half are
nature conservation areas and therefore undeveloped. On
Hutchinson Island, the coastline is not cluttered with high-rise
condominiums, hotels and overdevelopment, rather, it features
miles of uncrowded, natural beaches where salty air and
turquoise waters prevail. Beach activities are endless including
sunbathing, picnicking, fishing, kayaking, surfing, kite-surfing,
seashell hunting, and dog-friendly beaches.

Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce is one of the only
places in south Florida that allows horseback riding
on the beach. Tours are available.
