LEGAL FEARS PROPEL CLOSINGS
In response to the letter in July's
MAILBAG, " What's Going On With
the Schools? " I think I have the
answer to why schools close even if
there's just a forecast of bad weather.
Everyone worries that something
might happen, such as an accident, a
child slipping on ice, or any other of
numerous events that would now
mean lawsuits, finger pointing and
people asking why was school held
today? Who made that decision?
Back in the day, folks went
through a lot worse, but it was a
different time.

STORY MISSED QUILT MUSEUM
I always enjoy reading
Cooperative Living and this year I am
especially anxious to read the
STORIES FROM THE ROAD. Deborah
Huso is currently traveling down the
Shenandoah Valley toward my current
hometown of Lexington, and
the towns featured are an easy day
trip.
In the June issue, Harrisonburg
was the featured town and I was
more than a little surprised that the
Virginia Quilt Museum was not even
mentioned. In 2000 the Virginia
General Assembly designated it as
" the official quilt museum
of the Commonwealth. "

museum exhibits
work by early as
well as contemporary

MOM NEVER LET THAT ONE BY
Concerning the letter headed
" Chicken Little Redux " in July's
Cooperative Living, Mr. Hoover
apparently doesn't believe that the
obvious changes in climate that we
are seeing all over the world are
being accelerated by man's carbon
emissions, but he states that he does
think that we should be " good stewards
of the lands we occupy. "
We are, however, excused from
this obligation because occupants of
other lands are polluting worse than
we are. My mom never let me get
away with that one!

of the largest non-profit motorcycle
clubs in the world, with
more than 3,000 members in the

We have brought the BSMC to
Mecklenburg County and the
surrounding areas. Our honorary
member is Mr. Raymond Shelton,
99 years old, of South Boston.
