Rummel Receives Co-op Leadership Award
Statewide Association Recognizes Achievements of Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative's Retiring CEO

yron D. Rummel has been honored
by the Virginia, Maryland &
Delaware Association of Electric
Cooperatives (VMDAEC) with the 2016
Electric Cooperative Leadership Award.
The Association's highest honor, this
award recognizes individuals who have
been instrumental in the development
of rural electrification within the threestate
region.
Rummel, who since 2005 has served as
president & CEO of Shenandoah Valley
Electric Cooperative (SVEC) headquartered
in Mt. Crawford, accepted his award at
VMDAEC's annual membership meeting
July 25 in Cambridge, Maryland.
VMDAEC CEO Richard Johnstone noted
that Rummel served on the board of Old
Dominion Electric Cooperative, SVEC's
power supplier, since 2005 and was
chairman from 2013-2016. Rummel also
served on the boards of VMDAEC and
ACES Power Marketing.

" Myron has been an integral part of
the success our region's co-ops have
experienced for many years and guided
SVEC through one of the most significant
events of SVEC's 80-year history, the
acquisition of more than 52,000 accounts
in 2010, " Johnstone said.
Robbie Marchant, chair of the SVEC
board, added, " In all he's done, Myron
consistently gives credit to the team. He
remains a humble servant to memberowners
of the cooperative and an advocate
for the safety and success of those
working for SVEC. "
The 2016 Leadership Award resolution
cites Rummel's years of contributions to
area business development and the civic
life of his community. A member of the
Rotary Club of Rockingham County, he
serves on the Bridgewater Planning
Commission and is a member and Sunday
school teacher at Bridgewater United
Methodist Church.
In his spare time, Rummel is a Virginia
High School League and Old Dominion
Athletic Conference football official, and
enjoys golf, tennis, scuba diving and flying
small planes. He plans to retire on Aug.
31, and has assisted with the transition
process for SVEC's new president & CEO,
Michael Hastings. 
Boswell Receives Distinguished Service Award
Longtime Southside Electric Attorney Honored for Contributions to Electric-Cooperative Program
ohn M. " Jack " Boswell has been
honored by the Virginia, Maryland
& Delaware Association of Electric
Cooperatives (VMDAEC) with the 2016
Electric Cooperative Distinguished
Service Award.
This award recognizes individuals who
have served the electric co-op program
with distinction during their career.
Boswell, who retired earlier this year
after serving since 1976 as legal counsel
for Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC)
headquartered in Crewe, accepted his
award at VMDAEC's annual membership
meeting on July 25 in Cambridge,
Maryland.
In presenting the award, VMDAEC
CEO Richard Johnstone noted that
Boswell served under all four CEOs in
SEC's history during his four decades of
service to the cooperative. Johnstone said
Boswell exemplified the principle of
" cooperation among cooperatives " by

mentoring cooperative attorneys serving
other electric cooperatives in the Virginia,
Maryland and Delaware region.
Johnstone also cited Boswell for actively
reaching out throughout his adult life to
identify and meet the needs of his fellow
citizens in Nottoway County, Crewe and
Burkeville, working tirelessly to provide
medical services, food and shelter to
those in need, as well as recreational
opportunities for young people.
Johnstone said the award was
presented " with admiration and respect "
to Boswell in recognition of his many
decades of exemplary service to
Southside Electric Cooperative, to the
other electric cooperatives in VMDAEC,
" and to philanthropic and community
service organizations within his beloved,
native Southside Virginia. "
Commenting on Boswell's award, SEC
President & CEO Jeff Edwards said,
" Jack has served the members, board and
management of SEC with the highest
level of professionalism and dignity for 39
years. His sound legal counsel helped
SEC navigate troubled waters many times
in our history, and his negotiation skills
resulted in the success SEC enjoyed when
encountering difficult situations. " 
