The Daytripper likes familiar
destinations with a little bit of
adventure and exploration thrown
in. Daytrippers take shorter vacations
and may branch out beyond the
destination to see what else is out there.
" Taking day trips allows them a
home base for comfort and the chance
to try a few new experiences at their
own pace, " says Jordan. Domestic
destinations include San Francisco,
Boston, Miami and New Orleans. Each
has a strong set of attractions, but
getting away from the city for a day
has appeal.
The Adapter is a bit harder to
pin down. Sometimes Adapters like
adventure; at other times, they prefer to
simply kick back. " Depending on their
travel companions, they are flexible and
will often go along with a proposal just
to fit in with the group, " Jordan says.
Chicago; Savannah, Ga.; Denver;
Sedona, Ariz.; and Napa Valley, Calif.,
are desirable destinations for the
Adapter because of the diversity of
things to do and places to see.
The Explorer likes to be somewhat
of a trailblazer and doesn't mind giving
up some comfort to try new things.
However, most Explorers first want to
check out a destination through a
review or website before jumping in.
" Destinations farther from home are
appealing because they offer the chance
to learn something new, " Jordan says.
" If you're an Explorer, consider going
to Bar Harbor, Maine; Missoula, Mont.;
Santa Fe, N.M.; Sitka, Alaska; or
Kauai, Hawaii.
Trendsetters are by far the most
adventurous and thrive on breaking
ground to new destinations so they
can share their experiences with family
and friends. If a destination becomes
popular, they move on to other locales.
" They seek out hidden gems and live
on the edge, " Jordan says. " They'll be
the first to travel to Homer, Alaska;
Lana'i Island, Hawaii; Mooney Falls,
Ariz.; Nine Mile Canyon, Utah; or
Mount Marcy, N.Y. And unless you're
a Trendsetter, you've probably never
considered these places. " ■

RESOURCES
Travel and Tourism Information by State provides access
to state offices of tourism, which provides overview information
about individual states. Usa.gov/state-travel-and-tourism.
At U.S. Travel Association, click on " Membership " then
" Membership Directory " and you'll have access to individual
convention and visitors bureaus across the nation. Links take
you to that city or town website's travel promotions, news about
attractions, dining, hotels, festivals and more. Ustravel.org.
TRAVEL APPS
Mobile Passport provides expedited passage through
U.S. Customs and Border Protection at more than 30 airports
and cruise ports. Mobilepassport.us.
CLEAR uses biometrics, such as fingerprints and the irises of
your eyes, to help you get through security checkpoints at more
than 60 airports, stadiums and other venues in the country.

App in the Air provides crowd-sourced information about
airports, plus keeps track of your flight profile and itineraries,
boarding passes, gate changes, and flight status updates.

Hitlist is one of the newest apps for tracking down cheap

one place, from airline reservations and seat assignments to

HELPFUL BLOGS
Girl on the Go offers travel tales and tips, domestic
and international travel information, destination reviews,
and even recipes. Janschroder.com.
GoNomad.com covers the world of travel with an extensive
section about travel in the United States, showcasing new
attractions and museums, travel tips and articles about
specialty travel, such as animal tours and travel for women.
JohnnyJet.com travel website is filled with tips,
recommendations and information about travel, whether
you're staying in-state or taking a trip around the world.
McCoolTravel.com includes tips such as creating your
own airplane travel kit to ways and earn frequent flyer points
without flying.
ScottsCheapFlights.com sends out travel alerts when
airfare deals pop up. The basic service is offered at no charge;
the premium platform comes with a fee and offers members
earlier access to deals.
TravelingMom.com offers family vacation suggestions,
hacks and tips from family travel experts, and plenty of free
things to do in all 50 states.
