spot from which the tick was
removed is the internal contents of
the tick such as partially digested
blood and the tick internal organs
that are injected into the wound
when the tick is squeezed.
The best way to remove a tick is
to use pointed tweezers and grasp
the tick as close to the skin as possible
and gently pull it away. A tag of
skin, attached to the mouth of the
tick, often comes with it.
If you remove an attached Lyme
tick go immediately to your doctor
and request preventative antibiotics
that are dosed according to weight if
you weigh over 155 pounds. If you
cannot identify the tick, place it in a
small container of rubbing alcohol
and take it with you or go online to
find out how to identify the female
Lyme tick. Normally, only female
ticks embed, suck blood and transmit
disease.

SENIORS TO APPLY FOR 2014
ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE
EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Any high school or home school
senior graduating in 2014 whose
parents or guardians are consumermembers
of an electric cooperative
and whose primary residence is
served by the cooperative is eligible
to apply for the 2014 Electric
Cooperative Educational Scholarship.
Scholarships will be awarded by
the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware
Association of Electric Cooperatives'
(VMDAEC) Educational Scholarship
Foundation Board. In 2014, the
Educational Scholarship Foundation
Board will be awarding $1,000 scholarships
that must be used for tuition,
student fees, room and board or the
purchase of books.
The Board selects scholarship
recipients based on a combination of
the following weighted criteria:
* financial need at 40 percent
* academic achievement at 40
percent
