I may choose to take one side or
the other.
Where I will take issue with the
writer of last month's letter is his
demand for silence. He would have you
censor and completely shut down any
argument on, or dissent against, the
theory of global warming. This was
called heresy by the Church of old and
sadly, some would have us practice it
again today.
To me, it seems more than a little
silly to make conclusive and
" indisputable " claims about the current
climate on a planet that is by best
estimates, 4.5 billion years old, based on
weather patterns of the past 100 years
(0.000002 percent).
Whatever we find in the future and
whatever we think we know now, I
applaud you for giving both sides a
voice in what can be a contentious
argument. Please continue to do so.

EDITORIAL JUDGEMENT
AGAIN IN QUESTION
Once again the editorial
judgment of Cooperative Living is
in question. A January 2016 article,
" Member Views, " is yet another
attack on the EPA's Clean Power
Plan.
This time the article relies on
comments by NRECA interim
president Jeffrey Connor and raises
fears with nebulous comments like
" could threaten reliability " and " has
the potential to increase prices. " It
ignores the mandate for strong
environmental action, demonstrated
by 195 nations and the European
Union at the UN Climate Change
Conference in Paris.
Mr. Connor and the magazine
would rather cite co-op members'
concerns for reliability and cost and
suggest the CPP will undermine
both, rather than discuss the need
for the CPP. Like a handful of
naysayers, he and the magazine have
outsized voices against the
overwhelming chorus of
credentialed, renowned scientists
and prominent leaders of
governments including China who
are calling for action.
Contrast that with Mr. Connor's
background in public policy and
politics and a BA in literature. He
seems to champion a free ride at a
time when the scientific community
says climate change will have major
and unpredictable effects, mankind
is a cause and we can do something
about it.
The article has a misplaced
concern for higher electric bills on
(rural) " people living on fixed
incomes or in poverty. " I do care
about this but it hasn't bothered
opponents of the CPP who
systematically have denied these
same people funds for education,
healthcare and infrastructure over
the years.
