An Instructor Gets Credit
Co-ops are Tops
The Washington, D.C.-based National
Cooperative Bank recently released its
annual Co-op 100, which ranks the nation's
top cooperative enterprises by annual
revenue.
For the first time, electric cooperatives
make up one-quarter of this year's ranked
cooperative businesses.
The list included 18 generation and
transmission cooperatives, six electric
distribution systems and a financing
cooperative.
Old Dominion Electric Cooperative
(ODEC), headquartered in Glen Allen, Va.,
placed 61st. Northern Virginia Electric
Cooperative (NOVEC), based in Manassas,
Va., was 98th.
'Dashing Through the Web'
At the end of December, we ran a
" Dashing Through the Web " contest on the
Cooperative Living Facebook page. We
challenged our followers to locate a
hidden graphic of Santa on his sleigh
somewhere within the pages of
co-opliving.com in order to be entered
to win.
The random winner of the online searchand-find
game would receive a $50
Amazon gift card, and players were given
until Jan. 2 to join in
on the fun.
Clyde Robertson had turned in his hard hat in 2013 after 42 years in the
lineworker field, 32 of them with Southside Electric Cooperative in Crewe, Va.
Then duty called.
Robertson came out of retirement to oversee the tutelage of more than 250
graduates of the Southside Virginia Community College's (SVCC) Power Line
Worker Program, where he is lead instructor.
His efforts earned him the 2019 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in the area
of outstanding achievement by a college faculty/staff member from the Virginia
Community College System. Robertson's award, presented at a ceremony in
Richmond, cites his
expertise and guidance in
instruction, as well as an
uncommon depth of care
he displays for his students
as they learn the trade at
SVCC's Occupational/
Technical Center at Pickett
Park in Blackstone.
A Burkeville native,
Robertson worked with
Wallace Boyd of Crewe,
before becoming a co-op
lineworker.
One faculty member from
Clyde Robertson receives his honor from Dr.
Quentin W. Jackson, president of Southside
Virginia Community College.
Virginia's 23 community
colleges is selected each
year for the award.
Congratulations to " Dashing
Through the Web " winner Stephany
Tatman Maitland, a member of Southside
Electric Cooperative.
