WATER HEATING: A hot shower or bath
on a cold day is one of life's simple pleasures.
Here are some tips on getting the
most out of your water heating.
* Insulate the first 6 feet of the cold and
hot water pipes connected to your
water heater.
* Drain a quart of water from your unit
every three months. Doing so removes
sediments that hinder efficient heating.
Procedures vary among water heaters,
so follow the advice of the manufacturer.

It's to your energy advantage to wash
only full loads of dishes and clothes. As
a bonus, doing so makes it feel like
you're doing chores less often.
* When the time comes to replace your
water heater, choose an ENERGY
STAR-qualified unit. This advice applies
to a wide range of appliances and
other electronic devices.

ODEC PLANS WILDCAT
POINT PROJECT
Old Dominion Electric Cooperative
(ODEC) held an open house Nov. 20 for
Cecil County, Md., residents to learn more
about the Wildcat Point Generation Facility,
a state-of-the-art, natural gas-powered electric
generation facility ODEC plans to build
on Maryland's upper Eastern Shore.
" Wildcat Point will offer many benefits
for Cecil County and the region, from new
job opportunities and revenue to improved
reliability on the electric grid, " said Jack
Reasor, ODEC's president and CEO.
Wildcat Point will create cleaner, costeffective
and reliable power for ODEC's 11
member electric-distribution cooperatives in
Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
It would be located off Rt. 222 on existing
property at the Rock Springs Generation
Facility, which ODEC constructed and which
became operational in 2003.
Under an agreement with Cecil County
government, the facility will generate
$124.2 million in revenue for the county.
Wildcat Point is expected to become operational
in 2017 and generate approximately
1,000 megawatts of power, enough to
serve 390,000 homes annually.
