ANOTHER CONSIDERATION
FOR 'LEVEL-PLAYING-FIELD'
LETTER
Donald Valentine hit the nail
on the head with his letter about
leveling the playing field with
Chinese-produced goods, in the
October 2013 issue of Cooperative
Living.
However, Mr. Valentine missed
one important factor in the equation.
The American people must
stop buying these Chinese-made
products.
I spend a lot of time checking
where an item is made and
researching where I can find the
same item made in the USA.
Sometimes it is easy, other times I
have done without an item because
of where it is manufactured.
If I cannot purchase the item I
am looking for in a store because
of its origin of production, I make
sure I pass that on to the store
management. I am finding that
many things are made in the USA;
you just have to do a little
research. Some things cost a little
more and to my surprise, some
things cost a little less, but even
with the things that cost more, you
have to take into consideration
that the money spent on USAmade
items is staying here in the
USA, feeding our families and
contributing to our economy and
tax base.

When comparing the products
side by side, the American-made
product is usually of better quality.
So, look for products made in the
USA. And, manufacturers need to
make that very clear on their
products. Buy American.

BE THANKFUL FOR OUR LINEMEN
I observed a crew from my cooperative,
Shenandoah Valley Electric,
as they replaced a pole on Trenton
Avenue in late October.
Just to watch something like that
makes you thank God for their ability
and skill to be able to do that kind
of work, and to do it in a safe way.
They seemed to work very well
together.
We need to pray for our linemen
all the time, but especially in the
winter months, when the power is
off and people gripe and complain.
They can only do so much in very
dangerous situations. This is a time
when we all can learn to have a little
patience.

THOUGHTS ON POLITICS,
POST-ELECTION
With the governor's race finally
over, I thought now would be a good
time to share my thoughts on the
Affordable Care Act and Ken
Cuccinelli.
Although I wasn't thrilled with any
one of the three candidates, I was
willing to give Cuccinelli the vote
because of his stances on government
spending and the ACA. He was one of
the first attorneys general in the
nation to sue over the new law.
Now that the effects of the law are
starting to be felt, I suspect the ACA
will become less popular as the
months progress. What I am thinking
now is that politicians like Ted Cruz
and Ken Cuccinelli may have positioned
themselves as the poster boys
for the fight against the ACA and big
government.
As I see people from both parties
uniting in their anger over higher
premiums and cancellation notices,
I expect to see these sometimes hated
politicians get a second look from
moderate and undecided voters. Time
will tell.
