can share his passion for wholesome
outdoor sports that are as old as
mankind, hunting and fishing, hopefully
influencing other young people
to emulate his example.
Instead of congratulating Victor
and his parents for his turning out so
well, we get a typical anti-hunter
complaining about how she is
" offended " by his achievements. She
says we should be " working to
preserve " wildlife. If she read the
sidebar story, she would know that
deer herds have grown enormously,
and thanks to our ever-growing
human population that is paving
over their environment, have no
place to go. This leads to thousands
of deer starving every year, and the
road kills we see everywhere we go.
Those who get their information
from empirical reality instead of
" Bambi " understand that harvesting
excess deer is a humane effort to control
these populations, and a source of
food for hunters and for those who
depend on their charity, as the meat is
often donated to organizations that
distribute it to the hungry.

LET'S RE-THINK SUNDAY
HUNTING
I horseback ride with permission
on posted no hunting private
property, as well as in state parks,
forests, and other public lands in
Virginia.
Prior to 2014 when the legislature
repealed the prohibition on
Sunday gun hunting on private
property, it was illegal to deer
hunt with weapons on Sundays.
Now, anyone strolling with their
family, hiking, biking, horseback
riding, bird-watching, etc., on
public lands or private posted
land on Sundays is no longer safe
from gun hunters violating the
hunting law or firing towards
" safe " land.
There is a push to lift all
restrictions on Sunday gun hunting
that would leave millions of
Virginia residents and taxpayers
without one single day during
hunting season to be safe while
pursuing non-hunting outdoor
sport or recreation on public land
where hunting is already allowed
the other six days of the week.
Contrary to some beliefs, hunters
are not discriminated against

sport. Anyone seeking access to
public state and federal parks and
lands for certain recreational
purposes must purchase special
passes, permits, and pay entrance
and/or usage fees, including extra
fees for trucks hauling horse
trailers and the number of horses
on the trailer, for the privilege of
using public lands.
This is not an attack on hunting
wildlife with weapons.
Rather, it is a statement supporting
fair and safe access one day a
week to Virginia's public parks,
forests, and lands free of danger
from armed wildlife hunters during
hunting season.
