other coal plants in all states.
To my knowledge, no credible person
has ever asserted that CO2 pollutes the
air. No, the problem is that CO2 is so
prevalent due to the burning of fossil
fuels, that the absorption from natural
sources (trees, and the oceans) can no
longer keep it in check, so it goes into
the atmosphere and behaves as a
greenhouse, trapping heat and thus
warming the Earth. I learned about the
greenhouse effect 40 years ago in
physical science.
The so-called use of scrubbers is also
misleading. While there is technology to
remove CO2 from smokestacks, it is
expensive and therefore not being used,
as there is nothing in it for the coal
industry.

WAS MISINFORMED
A Mailbag letter, " EPA Pushes
Control through Regulation, " expresses
a misinformed opinion that seems to be
all too prevalent, today. It begs a rebuttal.
I am not a psychologist, but the
writer's use of the phrases " agenda ...
total government control, " " climatechange
myths " and " tyranny " shows
more than a bit of paranoia in his
thinking. I guess he must not know any

scientists, personally. You remember,
they're the nerds with their heads in
books and ideas in their heads. They
aren't the ones who run for election to
offices of power. Governing others
simply isn't a high priority for them.
I am a retired geologist. I have no
agenda. I do understand facts that are
revealed by scientific study. And, I do
confess to having a passionate disdain
for denial of reality. I am well informed
by decades of learning about the Earth
and all its interrelated systems. The fact
of global atmospheric warming due to
human use of fossil fuel energy has been
known for over four decades. It is real. It
is not a theory. It is not an opinion. It is
happening regardless of anyone's belief
about it.

I look forward to my copy of
Cooperative Living. Recently a letter in
the Mailbag inspired me to write,
concerning the writer's impressions of
the Environmental Protection Agency.
The government of our great nation
is tasked with providing for us that
which we cannot provide for ourselves. I
need the EPA to help stop more
mountains from being leveled to extract
coal.
Unlike mining companies, I cannot
purchase an entire mountain range, but
need the mountains to help buffer
