Time Out For A Hobby

If you were asked if you have any hobbies, which answer would you give?
a. No
b. What do you mean? Does playing video games and watching TV count?
c. Yeah, I ... (collect baseball cards, crochet, cook, etc.)

and named a favorite collection or DIY interest. But
now that third answer is the least common. Does that
mean hobbies are becoming a thing of the past?
Before answering that question, look at the definition
of hobby ... an activity done regularly in one's leisure time
for pleasure. In other words, it's something you really
like doing often, just for the fun of it.
Therefore, if your favorite free time activity happens in

If you don't already have a hobby or if mom/dad are
encouraging you to unplug from your media habit, right
now could be the perfect month to search for a different
pastime. January not only kicks off a brand-new year full
of opportunities, it just happens to be National Hobby
Month!
Searching for a fresh activity can be fun, especially when
you think of hobbies as the desserts of life. Just like those
front of a screen, (TV, video games, smartphone), then
you could call " digital technology " a hobby. Or if you
thrive on playing multiple sports, in school and on
weekend travel teams, then " competitive athletics " could
be a hobby. And, if you find juggling and unicycling to be
exciting, then learning " circus skills " becomes a hobby.
So, no, hobbies aren't disappearing ... they are merely
transforming, reflecting new interests, opportunities and
changes in modern family lifestyles.

their own sweet rewards.
Look over this smorgasbord of more than 30 tempting
ideas. There's sure to be something on the menu that
you'll want to sample! That first taste
of a new venture might turn you
