Learning the 'whys' is great
" I
Being a lineworker: " I really like the whole team camaraderie;
it's great. It's a lot on your plate, going out there and getting the
lights back on, that feeling of satisfaction. It can be a long day
but once you've figured out the problem and get the lights on,
it's a good feeling. "
What he's learning: " It's a mix of practical and theoretical. There's
a lot of stuff that we do in the field where we learn more in the
field than we do sitting in a classroom. But learning the 'whys'
is great. "
Our Training Tracks feature spotlights a lineworker
from an electric cooperative. Training is conducted
at the Electric Cooperative Training Center in Palmyra,
Va. The state-of-the-art facility is an ideal learning
environment to serve the needs of lineworkers,
system operators, substation operators and other
co-op representatives.

've always enjoyed being outdoors. At the time, I had a good
friend of mine who was in the field. He introduced me to it.
I learned a little more about it and so I decided to put myself through
the climbing school in Georgia. I graduated from that program,
started looking in my areas and ended up going with Northern
Virginia Electric Cooperative. So I got a job with my local co-op. "

About the Training Center: " The facility is great. They
did a great job with it. The instructors are great. It's a
long way from the trailers they had. We're very pleased

Last July, Mo and co-worker Troy Price earned
praise for helping to rescue a baby in distress while
they were making their rounds.

Scholarships Available
Electric cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland
and Delaware are accepting college scholarship
applications from high school seniors for
2020-'21.
The scholarships are awarded by the Virginia,
Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric
Cooperatives' (VMDAEC) Education Scholarship
Foundation.
Applications will be accepted through
Feb. 28, 2020.
Any high school or home-schooled senior
graduating in spring 2020, and whose primary
residence is served by a VMD member
cooperative, is eligible to apply for a $1,000
scholarship to a two- or four-year college or
trade school.

An applicant must be entering his or her first
semester at a post-secondary or technical/trade
school in the fall of 2020.
To be considered complete, SAT and/or
ACT score reports must come from the College
Board. The Foundation's board of directors
will select recipients based on these weighted
criteria: financial need at 40 percent, academic
achievement at 40 percent and personal
statement at 20 percent.
