Ride 2 Recovery Fundraiser
Receives a Big Boost from
Virginia's Electric Co-ops
Developed to honor and aid wounded veterans, this year's Ride
2 Recovery (R2R) program again inspired volunteers from several
Virginia co-ops to lend a hand - or grab their bicycles - to
continue what is fast becoming a Memorial Day tradition.
R2R's " Memorial Challenge " Honor Ride brought together more
than 200 participants and nearly as many volunteers seeking to
restore hope and purpose to those who have given their all while
serving our country.
The five-day cycling event started on Memorial Day in Northern

Virginia, and ended at week's end in Virginia Beach.
Some of the cyclists were " healing heroes " like Humberto
Reyna, featured in the March-April 2016 Cooperative Living cover
story. Others, including Northern Neck Electric Cooperative
(NNEC) President & CEO Greg White, had taken time to gather
sponsorship dollars before cycling alongside the veterans.
In addition to White and other volunteers from NNEC, there were volunteers from NOVEC,
Rappahannock, Prince George and Old Dominion electric cooperatives who offered vital assistance
and support at stops along the course of the event.
Launched in 2008, Ride 2 Recovery promotes cycling as an alternative therapy for veterans with posttraumatic
stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, as well as physical injury rehabilitation. This organization now
hosts more than 20 Honor Ride events nationally each year, including Virginia's " Memorial Challenge, " which support the physical and
