Don't Forget Nectar Plants
Several generations of monarchs will evolve throughout the spring and summer.
The adult monarchs will need many sources of nectar as they grow and reproduce.
Be sure to plant some nectar-rich flowers such as bee balm, asters, daisies and zinnias
along with the milkweed. (order heirloom zinnias below)
If someone asks, " why all the fuss about a butterfly? " be sure to mention that
besides adding beauty and wonder to the world, the monarch is also an important
pollinator - think food crops. Then point out that any habitat created for the monarch
will also be visited by hundreds of different, hungry pollinator species looking for a
drink of nectar, too. And that's a great extra bonus for all of your effort!
