THANKS FOR THE DIGIMAG
I wanted to contact one of your
advertisers, but didn't have your
magazine with me. So I accessed
www.co-opliving.com, only to be
disappointed when I noticed that your
current issue provided access to
articles, but not to advertising.
Then I saw the NEW DigiMag
option on the home page; the current
issue in digital format. Now this is what
I was looking for ― press the link and
I go straight to the advertiser's site!
Your advertisers must be pleased, too!
Thanks for producing a great magazine,
both on paper and online.

WANTED: CREATIVE IDEAS
ON HORSE MANURE
I really enjoy your magazine, and I
wonder if any readers have any creative
ideas for horse manure, since we have a
horse boarding ranch and the
local landfill now refuses manure, I
suppose since it's combustible. I did
hear some landscapers mix it with topsoil
and use it for their clients.
It seems that people disagree about
whether to age it first or just use it
fresh. As I was growing up, in the dark
ages, we just put it on everything
straight out of the barn and it made
stuff grow like crazy.
So ... any ideas?
Thanks for your input, and keep up
the good work.

THE CHILDREN IN THE CAR
WERE CUTE!
I love your magazine. I look forward to
reading it every month.
I loved the picture of the car with the
children on the cover of the November/
December issue. They were both so cute.
And contrary to a MAILBAG letter that was
in the next issue, not all women are upset
with the driver being a boy.

CONSTITUTION GUARANTEES
FREE SPEECH
In response to the MAILBAG letter,
" Love Ya, But Don't Spew Sewage " in the
March/April issue, I never write to periodicals
but, for fear I and my family might be
lumped into the writer's perception of
country dwellers, I fear I must.
The Constitution allows all Americans
the right to free speech. A publication may
print whatever it wants, subject to certain
rules of thumb. When readers write with
opinions on any subject, if editors find they
want to publish it, there is no " expectation "
of what should or should not be published,
as long as no one is harmed.
Upon reading the letter from the writer
stating the wish that the girl had been driving
the little car, although I thought it a bit
silly to make an issue out of this, I never
questioned the appropriateness of publishing
it, or the writer for expressing the opinion.

 DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS?
The February 2014
HISTORY MYSTERY
was Scrabble School
in Rappahannock
County. Located in
Castleton, Va., just east of Rt 522, this
recently restored African-American schoolhouse was
built in 1922 as one of the Rosenwald Schools. To

Reader Ellen Timbers of Woodville was our $25
winner. Congratulations, Ellen!
READER DISAPPOINTED IN
MAILBAG LETTER
I am so disappointed in your usually
fine magazine.
How could you publish such a hatefilled
and astonishingly prejudicial
letter ( " Love Ya, But Don't Spew
Sewage, " March/April 2014)?
I live in the country too. I am a
woman, a feminist and a liberal. I didn't
realize that living in the country and
being a feminist were apparently
mutually exclusive ― until I read this
letter.
One of the MANY wonderful reasons
I live in the country is for the tremendous
level of acceptance for differences
I have found here. Liberals and conservatives
really do live in harmony,
respecting each other's differences and
" agreeing to disagree " ... and then
having dinner together! Personally, I've
found I have a great deal to learn from
my more conservative buddies.
The tone of this letter is so disturbing.
Insinuating that there is a " right
and wrong " way to live and to believe
instead of respecting and celebrating
our differences.
Is that what your magazine REALLY
wants to promote?
If so, I respectfully ask you to no
longer send copies of it to my home.
