Beautiful video compilations and movies aren't just left to the pros these
days. If you have a mobile device and access to a computer, you've got
everything you need to create something beautiful out of all the mementos
on your phone of birthdays, holidays and everyday moments.
There is a wide range of cutting-edge, easy-to-use video-editing apps that
can transform even the rawest cellphone footage into something
memorable. You can splice, trim, polish, slow down or speed up, and string
together video footage like a pro. You can even add filters and fun effects, as
well as a musical soundtrack. It's a production studio in your palm.
Creating impressive videos/movies on your mobile device is easier than you think.
iMovie
The iMovie app works on iOS 9.3. or later and is a sizeable app
at about 697MB. When you open the app, you're given three
choices; video, theater or projects. The first shows any clips on
your phone and lets you play them and trim their beginnings and
ends. Theater is a sharing option. Projects is where you can edit
digital movies. When you create a new project, you're given the
choice of creating a movie (combining video, photos and music to
make your own movie) or trailer (following a template to create a
Hollywood-style movie trailer). The app comes with its own music,
filter and theme options, but also gives you the ability to create
more custom movies.
Adobe Premier Clip
This smartphone editing app from Adobe lets you create a
timeline from several video clips and images, trim them in size,
adjust the speed, select soundtracks and apply filters. But this app
isn't intended to create fun and silly clips to share on social media
(for that, try Boomerang or FilmoraGo); it's for the creation of
professional-looking videos.
Adobe Spark Video
Spark is free for anyone to try at spark.adobe.com, but you'll
need an Adobe account to log in with Facebook or Google account
credentials. The service and apps are free, though the output
includes Adobe branding. The apps can be downloaded from the
iTunes App Store; Android apps aren't available at this time, but are
likely to follow. The Spark app gives you three simple choices: post,
page and video. The post tool is designed to help you create social
memes; page is for portfolios, catalogs and info pages; and video is
for video tutorials and presentations.
Videolicious
This is a ridiculously simple iPhone video-production app. All you
have to do is select a template and then the app, literally, walks you
through three simple steps. For step one, you select your video files
or photos you want to include in your production. You're limited,
however, to only 10 photos or video clips. For step two, you film
yourself (or someone else) talking about the videos in your movie.
This video becomes your voice track in the final production. Step
three is the cherry on top; you get to select your soundtrack, the song
that will play in the background of your video. There are several songs
provided royalty-free for use with the app. Once you complete the
three steps, you're done. The app will automatically save your video
to your phone's camera roll and give you the option to share from the
app to Facebook, YouTube or via email.
FilmoraGo
This is an Android-based video-editing app that allows you to add
effects, templates or your favorite music and more to your videos or
photos. It also offers options to add titles, transitions and fun frames.
There are ready-made themes to give your video a fun look and you
can try them out with a single tap. One of this app's most impressive
features is it allows users to insert a second video or still photo,
adjust its size and position it wherever
you like over the first one. The feature
is called " picture-in-picture. " You
can also choose when it appears
and apply a transition, so it
spins, slides or fades into
place. It's a great app to create
fun videos worthy of sharing on
social media. 
