Ridge foothills than during the 20th
Annual Culpeper Harvest Days & Farm
Tour on Oct. 7-8. Start your self-guided
tour with a stop at the Culpeper Welcome
Center on Route 29 for tickets and a list of
participating farms.
You've got FOUR great events to choose
from on Saturday, Oct. 14. Head south to
Alberta for the Taste of Brunswick
Festival & Stew Cookoff, featuring
authentic stew and live entertainment
from Brittany Marie, Good News Gospel,
Home Grown Bluegrass, Mill Run and
Dixie Road, with bouncy rides, a petting
zoo and a truck-driving simulator for the
kids. Or, head north for the 22nd annual
Fauquier Farm Tour & Field Day,
featuring interactive tours of the area's
farms and wineries. A highlight of the
Shenandoah County AutumnFest is 40
teams competing in a championship to
see who makes the best barbeque in the
Valley, with more than 32 craft beers to
sample, along with a log-splitting
competition, harness racing, artisans and
more. The City of Fairfax's Annual Fall
Festival from 10 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. in
Old Town Fairfax features free admission
and a mobile app to help you navigate
more than 400 arts-and-crafts vendors
and several stages of live entertainment for
all ages.
Whether you want to become more
prepared for natural disasters or just be
more self-sufficient, you'll want to swing
by the Emergency Prepper Expo at
Meadow Event Park in Doswell on Oct.
21-22, where survival experts will

The weekend of Oct. 27-28, put a new
twist on Halloween celebrations with BooGrass
by the Lake, hosted by the Airfield
Conference Center in Sussex County.
Tickets are available for either or both
days as 11 great bands perform live
bluegrass and country music, with both
lodging and RV hookups available.
Richard Bland College of William &
Mary is expanding its 2nd Annual Pecan
Festival to a two-day event. The 2017
Pecan Festival will be held on Saturday,
Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on
Sunday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The enhanced festival offers food, drink,
crafts, children's activities, entertainment
and music. Admission to the Pecan
Festival is free. The event will take place
rain or shine. For more information, visit

Beginning Oct. 7, Virginia's Eastern
Shore will host a series of Eight Fall
Oyster Roasts. This tradition harkens
back to the days when cooler weather
signaled that oysters were safe to eat -
the old " r " -month rule. There's an event
most every weekend and things kick up a
notch during Wine and Brine Month in
November, when pairing oysters and wine
grown in the same Chesapeake Bay
watershed is celebrated. As they say, " what
grows together goes together. " Tickets go
