What to Expect: The options are seemingly endless in this
region known well for its exquisite beaches, Mayan sites and wedding choices for all budgets. The destination is red-hot for nuptials, and there’s no shortage of enchanting locations for a love-filled ceremony.
Wedding Bells: Big or small, a wedding in the Mexican Caribbean is an easy choice for couples looking for tropical natural settings. The AAA five-diamond Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita in the Riviera Maya, for instance, offers nothing but oceanfront suites. The resort was inspired by a true romance—that of owner Carlos Gosellin and his wife Elisa. In fact, he built it as an homage to her, incorporating many personal art and antiques brought from different locations around the world. Each suite has been individually decorated and is named after places they’ve visited: Jaipur, Marbella, Antigua and others. A recent party booked the entire hotel for their wedding weekend with 250 guests, says Amanda Davis, AMResorts’ romance product manager. “The couple opted for a traditional Mayan ceremony and had a platform built over the pool for the

The reception was set up around the pool, which captured the reflection of the lights in the water.” Because this and other Zoëtry resorts are boutique properties, she adds, the opportunity for wedding parties to book the entire resort is achievable. “It really adjusts the focus of the wedding on what’s most important—bringing family and friends together to celebrate each other’s joy,” says Davis. The resort, she explains, has “…a private pier that is the perfect setting for an intimate wedding ceremony. The resort’s private catamaran makes a romantic locale for a sunset cocktail hour or reception sail. And complimentary greens fees at the nearby Playa Paraiso Golf Club means the guys can go play a round while the girls relax at the spa in preparation for the wedding.” Another great big plus to Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita: its Endless Privileges concept, which includes private airport transfers, nonstop gourmet dining options and a long list of amenities such as sunset sails, Temazcal ceremonies and a daily bottle of Champagne. ➣
