JUMEIRAH SWINGS INTO ABU DHABI
MODERNIST U.A.E. HOTEL FEATURES 12 RESTAURANTS/LOUNGES
Dubai-based Jumeirah Hotels opened its first hotel next door in Abu Dhabi this winter, built with Western groups in mind. The 382-room Jumeirah at Etihad Towers occupies one of five ruthlessly modern towers overlooking a quiet beach and bay. With subtle hints of Arabian influences, the decor is largely international, defined by Italian marble and custom-designed Belgian carpets. All-glass walls deliver ceiling-to-floor open views of the Corniche and Gulf. With an eye-popping 12 restaurants and lounges offering a huge variety of culinary options from Japanese to Lebanese, gastronomic satisfaction is a fait accompli. The stand out is Quest, an exquisite pan-Asian signature restaurant on the 63rd floor. Private dining rooms rim the edge to take advantage of the vistas. The conference facilities are among the largest in Abu Dhabi with 13 meeting rooms and the Mezzoon Ballroom, seating 1,000 for dinner. For your VIPs, offer them one of the suites that come with fastidious butler service and Steinway & Sons grand pianos. jumeirah.com
LOOK WHO’S IN BUCKHEAD
NEW MANDARIN ORIENTAL, ATLANTA BRINGS POLISH TO THE PEACH STATE
This May, the 127-room Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta opens in the posh Buckhead neighborhood 20 minutes north of downtown. Housed inside a 42-story building designed by American hotel genie Robert Stern, the Mandarin blends traditional Southern charm with modern Oriental mystique. The menu at The Café & Bar is dictated by the availability of organic produce. We’re looking forward to trying the Scottish salmon fillets topped with caraway-scented rutabaga puree. For group biz, six light-filled meeting rooms host up to 200 pax, while an English Garden provides a rarefied setting for al fresco receptions up to 200 pax. And did someone say shopping? The best retail therapy in The South is just a few minutes beyond the porte cochere. mandarinoriental.com
