Immersion
Attendees will be swept away by the rich artistic and cultural
traditions of Asia's distinct destinations. By Barbara Scofidio

Attendees traveling to Asia expect an experience that will transport
them far beyond their comfort zones. Rather than just seeing the
sights, they want to immerse themselves in the culture-to sample
unexpected tastes, textures, sounds and scents. Whether that means
sipping a fine Indian wine aboard one of that country's award-winning
luxury trains, learning the ancient art of knife-making in Japan,
donning a Korean hanbok or viewing live Maori cultural performances
in New Zealand, programs seek to create a lasting impression of the
country and a deeper understanding of its traditions.
EXOTIC INDIAN JOURNEYS
India's luxury trains offer attendees a unique platform for exploring
the country's rich cultural heritage. Maharajas' Express offers five
exotic journeys, such as the four-day Treasures of India, traveling
through Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore and Jaipur-known as the
"Pink City" for the tint of its many forts and palaces. Attendees
get to experience the Taj Mahal and no fewer than five UNESCO
World Heritage Sites. Onboard amenities include decked out guest
carriages, butler service, two restaurants featuring global delicacies,

a bar stocked with fine Indian wine and a spa. Another equally
pampering rail experience is the Golden Chariot, which travels
from Bangalore through the southern part of the country and has its
own conference car for groups of up to 30 attendees. Its Splendor
of the South itinerary takes attendees to Chennai, the site of the
East India Company's first settlement and some of the country's
most historic churches (including St. Thomas Cathedral, said to
house the remains of the apostle) and Maduri, a center of learning
and pilgrimage for centuries. The train itself is an experience-beds
are reminiscent of those of the Maharajas, with intricate carvings on
the ceilings, and the wall panels and furniture inspired by Mysore
and Hoysala architecture.
JAPANESE TRADITIONS
The best way to immerse attendees in Japanese tradition is through
one of the many day excursions leaving from Tokyo. A three-hour
tour available through InsideJapan takes the group to one of
the country's few remaining swordsmiths, who will show them his
