Anaheim: A Luxury Destination
New hotels and an emerging foodie district expand meetings possibilities

A

naheim might not be the first city
that comes to mind when you think
of a foodie scene, but its downtown
is seeing significant strides in this direction.
In addition to the dozen breweries
already open, this year has added Asylum
Brewing, All American Ale Works, Silo
Brewing and Towne Park Brewery.
Many of the dozen existing facilities are
also expanding, with Golden Road
Brewing adding three outdoor bars, a
new restaurant, event space and outdoor
fire pits; Bottle Logic is also adding an
outdoor patio area and event space.
Located in downtown Anaheim, the Make
Building, a 10,500-sf structure that was
once a marmalade factory, is now home to
Unsung Brewery, Pali Wine Company
and the soon-to-come Stone Groove
Stillhouse and Jav's BBQ. It's also right
across the street from the Anaheim Packing
House, an upscale food court with local
vendors and bars in a renovated 1919
citrus-packing house. Also in this area is
Cooks Chapel, which seats up to 125 and
features a full demonstration kitchen and
private bar, and The Backyard, an outdoor
event space with a fireplace and
orange grove.
"All the new craft breweries and
restaurants popping up around town have
added a new dimension to the local dining
and nightlife scene," says Jay Burress,
president and CEO, Visit Anaheim.
"Anaheim has really become a hotbed
for new and established chefs and beer
makers wanting to experiment and explore
fresh takes on their craft."

Luxe Hotels
Anaheim is seeing the addition of several
upscale properties, including the new Four

Diamond Hotel, a $225 million, 634room property adjacent to the Anaheim
Convention Center. The hotel will offer
42,000 sf of meeting space when it opens in
2020. Orange County's first JW Marriott
is being built adjacent to the Anaheim
GardenWalk, in the heart of the Anaheim
resort district. The 12-story, $150 million
property will have 466 guest rooms, along
with meeting space. Plans are also in the
works for a new 580-room luxury property
to replace the Anaheim Plaza Hotel &
Suites, with 50,000 sf of meeting space,
as well as a new luxury hotel at Disneyland
that will include a rooftop restaurant for
views of the fireworks, both projected
for 2018.

destination, constantly reinventing

itself," says Burress. "Now, our luxury
accommodation offerings are expanding
by adding four new four-diamond hotels to
complement the 20,000-plus hotel rooms
already in existence."

Add a Touch of Elegance
The trend among high-end groups is to
add amenity experiences to programs,
either during registration or at the opening
reception. Visit Anaheim has tapped into
this with a specially designed sterling silver
necklace and cufflinks created by jewelry
artist Diane Katzman. Katzman also offers
a DIY bracelet experience, where planners
can choose the colors and charms to fit
the theme or destination. The bracelets are
partially pre-made with crystals and beads,
so attendees spend just 10 to 15 minutes at
the table choosing their charms and adding
finishing touches with the help of Katzman
or a member of her team.
