Greybull man wins
hunt-of-a-lifetime opportunity
CHEYENNE - Gerald Crist's hunting
season just got a little busier.
The Greybull resident had three big game
licenses secured, but in mid-June Crist added
a fourth as he won the Wyoming Governor's
Wild Bison raffle. For the sixth consecutive
year, Governor Mark Gordon donated
a bison license to support Wyoming wildlife
conservation. The raffle, open to Wyoming
residents, raised $8,380 this year.
" I was glad to call Gerald Crist to deliver
the good news that he was the winner of such
an iconic Wyoming hunt, " Gordon said. " I
want to thank all those who purchased a
raffle ticket to support Wyoming's spectacular
wildlife. "
Crist said he was leery at first when he
received the phone call from Gordon.
" At first I didn't believe it was the governor, "
he said with a laugh. " When he said it
was the wild bison raffle I figured it was the
governor because nobody else knew I bought
a $10 raffle ticket. I was quite excited. Now, I
am trying to figure out what I need to do to
make it happen. I normally hunt elk, deer and
antelope, but this is a whole different critter. "
Crist said he is still figuring out some
of the logistics for the hunt but added he's
already had some fun getting ready.
" I just bought myself a new rifle; that was
the fun part, " Crist said.
This will be Crist's first-ever wild bison
hunt. He is retired and spent 30 years working
outside of Wyoming and not able to
hunt.
" I'm retired and can hunt, so this is working
out perfectly, " he said.
Crist is a member of the Greybull Town
Council and serves on boards for other organizations
in the town. He said winning the
raffle is special, but he considered himself a
winner just by entering.
" It's a good deal, and you can't lose. Even
if you don't win, you win anyway because
the money is going to wildlife conservation, "
Crist said. " Everybody in Wyoming has
an equal chance. I encourage hunters to
always put in, and you get lucky and win a
bison license. "

Wyoming Wildlife
wins two awards from IRMA
CHEYENNE - Wyoming Wildlife magazine
earned one gold and one bronze from the
International Regional Magazine Association
from its 44th annual IRMA Awards. Both
awards were from work during 2023.
Associate editor Robert Gagliardi won
gold in profile writing for magazines with
less than 34,999 circulation for his story
titled, " Fishing with Coach, " about a
day on the water with former University
of Wyoming men's basketball coach Jeff
Linder, which ran in the December 2023
issue.
The bronze was for illustrations - feature
or series - and went to the six-page foldout
map and illustration titled, " Movement
Matters, " which was part of the September
2023 special mule deer issue. Members of
the magazine team and Wyoming Game and
Fish Department personnel collaborated on
this project. It illustrated the movements
of five mule deer from different herds
throughout the state from the winter of
2022-23 to midsummer 2023.
