SECOND PLACE Scenic skiing Grand Teton National Park Della Frederickson | Wilson, Wyoming Sony a7R III: 1/1500 sec, f/2.4, ISO 400 here's something about those subzero mornings that make the scenery glisten a little more as the sun rises over the mountains. As breathtaking as it is, it also can be extremely challenging for photographers as they juggle potential frostbite while trying to capture the perfect shot. For me this was one of those mornings as I clipped into my skis, packed my camera in my backpack and began skinning across Jackson Lake in Grand Teton National Park during an avalanche training course. In order to capture this moment I broke out of the skin track and picked up my speed to get ahead of the group. The sun was positioned to the south, which elongated the skier's shadow and made for a bold image. I learned long ago that braving the elements and lugging a few extra pounds of equipment in your backpack are well worth the effort to get a shot like this one. T Wyoming Wildlife | 39
