Adam Oswald's artwork won first place in the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's 38th annual Collectible Conservation Stamp Art Show with this painting titled,
" Evening with a View. "
South Dakota artist wins
conservation stamp art show
CHEYENNE - Adam Oswald's interest
piqued when he found out the subject of
the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's
Collectible Conservation Stamp Art Show was
the pronghorn. That interest and his artistic
ability earned the Harrisburg, South Dakota,
resident victory in the 38th annual contest.

said Oswald, who won
$3,500 for his winning
entry. " I've done several
paintings of pronghorn
and have always enjoyed them. "
The contest featured 105 entries from 94

lead the country among state wildlife stamp
art competitions in number of entries, prize
money and quality of artwork submitted by
renowned artists.
This was Oswald's second time entering
the contest. He earned honorable mention
recognition three years ago when the subject
was the mule deer.
" I didn't start
this painting with
an idea of the layout
or composition, " he
said. " The first thing
that popped into my
head when I heard
artists representing 20 states and Mexico. More
than half of the entries were from Wyoming
artists. Stamps featuring the winning image will
be sold as collectible conservation stamps and
limited-edition prints through the Game and
Fish Store. The Wyoming contest continues to

pronghorn was the subject was making sure to

stuff came in. "
Three biological judges evaluated entries
for accuracy based on body hair coloration,
presentation of the eyes and head shape,
horn shape and habitat. Four artistic judges
evaluated the artwork for overall quality and

aesthetics, and ability of the image to be
reproduced on a stamp.
" This is a big contest and there were a lot of
good entries, " Oswald said. " I knew it would
be competitive, I liked the challenge and it
was a species I liked. "
The subject of next year's contest is the
pine marten.
