REED RINGS TRUE
Tom Reed's article on the passage of time in April's
magazine rang so true with me. Last October, at 80, I
made my third trip to Arvada for antelope and mule
deer. I've been to Quebec seven times for caribou. I've
also hunted in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nebraska,
Kansas, Arkansas and Chesapeake Bay for ducks and
in South Dakota for pheasants.
I've had a life full of experiences, and I'm not one
who said, " I'll do that someday. " You only live once.
Your marvelous magazine will always be in my
hands.

TOOL FOR TINY FLIES
I really enjoyed Jack Ballard's article in the March
2022 issue on fishing midges. He suggests using
hemostats to pluck small midge patterns from one's
fly box. By my own experiences with these small
flies, and also having acquired a number of tools
to help me build model trains, I have been using
a single-loop test probe used in electronic circuit
construction to grab these flies from the box. The
photo shows the mini-test clip hook probe grabber I
have attached to my fishing vest in action. The grabbers
are spring loaded, so once the fly is " hooked "
it stays in the grabber while you try to get the 7X
tippet through its eye. Such tools are inexpensive,
and can be purchased from online electronic supply
stores and auctions.
